Hugh Masekela: A Tribute

We pay tribute to a legend, Hugh Masekela who passed away on January 23. He was 78.

He was a great guy who made great music with which he told great stories and instigated change.

He played the trumpet in such a way that you wondered whether the instrument was invented just for him. If the trumpet hadn’t been made before he was born, he might well have invented it.

And he loved Ghana. In fact, he had Ghanaian citizenship. And married a Ghanaian too.

Tonight, my guests will share their Masekela stories: Veteran journalists Cameron Duodu and Kwasi Gyan-Appenteng as well as Kiki Banson, a music producer who collaborated with him; and Mrs. Mapeete Kouame, from the South African High commission.
